If I had to sum up my goal in life in one word it would be this word, focus. I want to be better at focusing on the things that I need to focus on, and ignore the things that I don’t need to focus on. In life it can be very easy to focus on the wrong things. When we loose focus, we loose ground and miss out on other things.
Jesus never lost his focus. When the prostitute poured oil on his head and feet, he didn’t loose focus, his disciples did. When the 5,000 needed something to eat, Jesus didn’t loose focus, his disciples did. When Jesus was lead to the cross to die, he still didn’t loose focus. He never allowed the immediate to dictate his focus or change his plans.
In my marriage Lori and I strive to keep focus in our relationship. We want to protect our relationship. We want to keep focus with parenting our three boys. If we loose focus, we risk loosing everything with them. We want to keep focus on what we eat, and who we hang out with, and ultimately how we serve God.
Unfortunately the focus in our life is not like the digital camera that we own. It is not automatic, it is only a manuel focus. We have to choose to focus on the things that we want to focus on. I don’t care what situation it is, we choose to either focus on the right things or the wrong things. I want to encouarge you today to set your focus to the right things in your life. Philippians 4:8 says it perfectly, “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” Now that is a great thing to focus on.

The grace of God has brought us together again. How happy Cookie and I are about that! Your writing reminds me of Hebrews 12:2…
“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
May His focus always determine our focus and drive our priorities. Thank you for your example.
